Introduction

PS1, The Maui Media Lab Electronic Media Arts & Science Advance Placement High School Curriculum includes lesson plans covering instruction in advance placement level, word processing, Internet & Networking, digital audio & CD production, radio production & broadcasting, digital imaging & computer graphics and digital video editing & post production. The lesson plans provided here are intended to be utilized with resources such as those defined by the Maui Media Lab PS1 Curriculum Resource Guide.

Lesson Plans

The lesson plans included within this curriculum are intended to provide a framework for a collection of classes incorporating demonstration, experimentation and evaluation phases.

Accountability

This curriculum is intended to be used in conjunction with The Maui Media Lab Electronic Media Arts & Science High School Performance Assessments. These assessments help measure the ability of both the students to demonstrate proficiency as well as the adminstration to cost effectively and reliably deliver curriculum related technology resources.

Credibility

It is crucial to establish credibility with high school age students in order to effectively teach the material incorporated within this curriculum. Keys to establishing credibility include consistency, resource reliability, relevancy and proficiency. The lesson plans presented here are designed to be tought weekly, and student participants are expected to practice and utilize these skills on a daily basis.

Reliability and Accessibility

Resources must be reliable and accessible in order for this course material to be accepted.

Proficiency and Relevancy

Teachers and experts must be able to both communicate the relevancy of this material as well as demonstrate proficiency in its proper usage.

Goals

The goals of these lesson plans are to provide the opportunity for student participants to learn how to use the Internet and local area networking resources as effective research and production tools, create their own documents and audio and video productions, create their own CDs and operate a broadcasting radio station and to be able to teach these skills to their peers and other members of the community.

The ultimate intent of the Maui Media Lab Electronic Media Arts & Science Advance Placement High School Curriculum is to encourage participants to acquire professional caliber digital media skills while helping to document and preserve the unique aspects of their local heritage, culture and community within the framework set forth by Public Law 101-392, the CARL D. PERKINS VOCATIONAL AND APPLIED TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION ACT.
