DescriptionClean and reliable electrical power is crucial for the proper operation of technology resources. It is not enough to plug a computer into a wall socket or surge protector power strip.A UPS or Uniterruptable Power Supply acts like a car battery, constantly charging from available wall power, while simultaneously providing clean, conditioned power to your computers, printers, video equipment, and other expensive stuff. The UPS isolates your equipment from power surges, spikes, drop outs, dirty power and if the power completely drops out, a UPS provides 10 to 15 minutes of backup power, plenty of time to save any work in progress and shut down the computer properly. Teacher's GuideCall your local fire department before and after you setup your presentation and workspaces. They will be happy to answer any questions and even inspect your work. Its also a great opportunity to meet the fire crew in a non emergency situation. |
Recommendation for the 2000-2001 Academic Year
Maui Media Lab recommends one APC Uninterruptable Power Supply, and a power strip for every two
computers and related peripherals. Plug the UPS into the wall, plug the power strip into the UPS,
plug the computers and related peripherals into the power strip.
Warning: DO NOT OVERLOAD your electrical wiring. Make sure you follow your local fire code and NEVER plug a power strip into another power strip to extend length or add extra outlets. |
